Welcoming

an Au Pair

The Au Pair Program

This program allows French families to welcome a foreign person, over a fixed period (3 months to 1 year) so that they can look after their children and carry out small household chores to help parents in everyday life.

This experience is very enriching, both for Au Pairs and Families because it allows both parties to exchange and share their cultures, learn a new language, travel and discover the French or European landscapes.

Planning

When creating the family profile, the latter will indicate, as an indication, a typical week to give the Au Pair an idea of the workload that will be required of him. Subsequently, this schedule will be adapted according to the needs of each one but cannot exceed 30 hours of work per week for the Au Pair.

Sharing

This experience aims to share their daily life, traditions and culture with the Au Pair. Thus, families must be keen to include her and offer to share their meal or to do an activity with her, for example.

Culture

Through this trip, the Au Pair will want to discover France and its landscapes but also its culture, traditions and learn its language. Throughout the experience, the family constitutes a support for the Au Pair who will be able to learn thanks to them and to evolve within a country which is foreign to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

u

What are the conditions for hosting an Au Pair?

To be able to host an Au Pair, you must have at least an additional bedroom so that they have their own space and privacy. Then, you have to be able to provide for yourself and pay him for the work done with the children.

u

How long does it take from the creation of the file to the reception of the Au Pair?

It takes at least 3 months between the first contact with the agency and the reception of the young Au Pair at home. The research, the creation of the file and the administrative procedures sometimes take more time.

u

What are the administrative procedures to plan for welcoming a young foreigner?

A young European Au Pair is considered, in France, as a Foreign Family Aid Trainee. As a result, the family must declare it to the URSSAF from their home in the days following the reception. If the young person is not an EU citizen, an application for a residence permit must be made to the prefecture. The agency is there to help you in all these steps.

u

How much is a year with an Au Pair compared to a year with a babysitter?

An Au Pair works for the family only, 25 to 30 hours per week, with a minimum salary of 320 € per month. A babysitter costs a minimum of 6 to 7 € per hour, or about 840 € per month. The additional costs to be expected relate to meals for the young week and weekends included and employee contributions.
