Becoming

an Au Pair

The Au Pair Program

This program allows young French people to go abroad with a local family, over a fixed period (3 months to 1 year renewable) in order to babysit their children and do small household chores to help parents in everyone’s life. days.

This experience is very enriching, both for Au Pairs and Families because it allows both parties to exchange and share their cultures, learn a new language, travel and discover the French or European landscapes.

The Conditions

Age request

The Au Pair program concerns young people aged 18 to 30 (see the requested country).

Skills

The young Au Pair must have their B license in order to be able to drive the children in the country where they live during the experience. A significant experience, in childcare, of 200 hours must be justified to the agency when creating the file (diplomas, recommendations, etc.). On the other hand, it is not compulsory to have a perfect mastery of the language of the target country, but knowing the basics is necessarily a plus for successful interviews with families.

Responsabilities

The young Au Pair agrees to work at least 25 hours per week. Remuneration is provided for the work performed as well as accommodation and meals. He will be responsible for the children and the household tasks planned by the family (only concerns children, example: laundry, bedroom storage, etc.)

Other

It is advisable to be non-smoker as very few families are open there. A good presentation is also preferable to be selected (example: no visible or “shocking” tattoos).

Who are the families ?

Thanks to our partnerships with international agencies all over the world, future French Au Pairs will have access to several profiles of international families corresponding to their criteria (number of children, schedule, location, etc.).

Like the Au Pairs, family profiles will be carefully checked by us to ensure the accuracy of the information and the motivation of people with regard to the experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

u

What are the conditions for becoming an Au Pair?

To become a young Au Pair you must be between 18 and 30 years old, but it also depends on the conditions of the host country. The ideal is to have your B permit and at least 200 hours of experience working with children of all ages. Speaking English is a plus but not required.

u

How long does it take from the creation of the file to the arrival in the host family?

It takes at least 3 months between the first contact with the agency and the creation of the file. Some steps are important in particular the creation of the profile and the administrative procedures (passport, visa, etc.). The family tracing time can sometimes be very long as well.

u

How much should you budget to live in the foreign country?

The future Au Pair must be able to pay the agency fees as well as his insurance and his plane ticket but, on the spot, he will be fed and housed. His remuneration (weekly or monthly) is in addition and is not intended to pay expenses to the family. It is pocket money so that the young person can travel.

u

What if the Au Pair has a problem with the family abroad?

The agency in France remains in support of the young Au Pair throughout the experience but they will also have local support from our international partner agency. The safety and well-being of the Au Pair being our priority, we plan ‘rematch’ or emergency repatriation if necessary.
